Ghatkhali Secondary School was founded by Mr. Nurul Islam on December 15, 1986. Then the name of the School was Hajara Khatun Junior High School. The first Headmaster of this school was Mr. Abdul Latif. In 1987 the name of school was Ghatkhali and Junior high school. In 1995 the school was established in Ghatkhali secondary school. At that time the land of the school was donated by Mr. Abdul Aziz Talukder and Abdul Rob. The present Headmaster of this school is Abul Kashem. Now It is the best school of Amtali upazila. Because it situated on the side of Patuakhali Kuakata high way and the result of this school is very good. Besides academic education, co-curriculum activities is held on Thursday every week.
