Patuakhali Govt. Mahila College(PGMC) is a girls’ college in southern area of Bangladesh; it has about 1,000 students. Patuakhali Govt. Mahila College is one of the renowned colleges in Barisal Division. It has a glorious past.It was established on 4thJuly in 1966 at the Centre of Patuakhali Sadar as a non-government college by some honorable persons in that time. From that, till today, this college is one of the leading Educational Institutes in southern part of Bangladesh. It was approved as a nationalized institute in 1979. Patuakhali Govt. Mahila College is the first girls' college in Patuakhali. In 1966-67 it had only 32 students. Initially, the classes of the college were conducted in a separate building of Patuakhali Girls’ School. It obtained the approval of opening Humanities & Science Group in 1968 & 1969 respectively. It obtained the approval of opening Degree(Pass) in 7 subjects in 1969. This college plays an important role in all types of educational & co-curricular activities. In the present global perspective of the twenty-first century, life has become much more competitive. Skilled, educated, proficient and potential persons are now demanded to cope with dynamism and challenge. With the end in view, Patuakhali Govt. Mahila college has been established undertaking the responsibility of providing modern and international standard education to the students. For every program we have scientifically designed course curricula and study materials – that really make us distinguished. Our faculty body consists of experienced, learned and trained teachers. We pay equal importance to teaching skills, personal and academic background and experience. We arrange an annual sports ceremony at college compound and picnic at suitable tourist spot like Kuakata Sea Beach.
